The Art Song Preservation Society mourns the passing of our beloved friend and Advisory Board member Dalton Baldwin (1931-2019). From our earliest days, he was a supporter teaching masterclasses in Poulenc, Fauré, Debussy and Ravel, and frequently sponsored the Gérard Souzay prize for French singing presented at the Mary Trueman Art song Vocal Competition. As we weep, we recall his tireless effort to promote the art song and the many great collaborations with song luminaries such as Jessye Norman, Gérard Souzay, Elly Ameling, Frederica von Stade, Arleen Auger, José van Dam and many more resulting in over 100 indispensable recordings that includes the complete recordings of Poulenc, Ravel, Fauré, Debussy and Roussel. The music world is united in our grief over the passing of this incomparable artist, outstanding mentor and remarkable friend.
