We look forward to making music with you online this season and will be posting our Summer of Art Song Festival 2021 program soon!

German Lied with THOMAS MURACO
Thomas Muraco, pianist, conductor, and coach, will explore the German Lied repertoire spanning from Schubert and Schumann to Mahler and Strauss and composers in between. Muraco is a celebrated coach who cites the legendary conductor Leonard Bernstein as one of his mentors. Muraco is on faculty at the Manhattan School of Music.

Collaboration & Refinement in Song Performance with MARK MARKHAM
Dr. Mark Markham, renowned for his work with legendary American soprano Jessye Norman (1945-2019), will work with singers and pianists on the art of partnership with particular focus on the French and German vocal repertoire. Discover your best performance practices in this class. Markham was awarded the Distinguished Alumnus Award from John Hopkins University, and is considered one of the most prominent performers and teachers in his profession. In recent years, recitals have been given with a new generation of stars including sopranos, Leah Crocetto and Jennifer O'Loughlin and mezzo-soprano J’Nai Bridges. Markham also has his own summer workshop, Singing in Sicily – a non-profit intensive training program for talented young singers from around the world

Internationally recognized for his work with classical, Broadway, and contemporary style singers, voice teacher, Neil Semer, offers his extensive insight guiding singers through an enjoyable afternoon of music from the American Songbook. In addition to the Neil Semer Training Institutes abroad and maintaining a vibrant voice studio in New York, he also teaches in London, Paris, Copenhagen, and Amsterdam

Spanish Language Art Song with Maya Hoover & José Meléndez,
Dr. Maya Hoover, (mezzo) and pianist and vocal coach, José Meléndez explore the vast array of songs and poetry of Argentina, Chile, Cuba, Peru, Uruguay and other Latin American and European countries. Dr. Hoover is the author of A Guide the Latin American Art Song and a professor on the voice faculty at the University of Hawaii, and Meléndez is a faculty member at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia.

African American Song with EMERY STEPHENS
Recognized as one of the leading performers, masterclass teachers and lecturers of African American Song repertoire, Dr. Emery Stephens (baritone), offers his extensive insight and unique philosophy on an area of music all too often neglected by artists. He will guide singers and the audience on how to interpret this genre authentically within a cultural context regardless of the performer’s racial identity. While this music is written by composers of color who have often been marginalized or not fully represented in classical music, the essence of these songs transcends the color of the performer. Our guest artist will offer his expert insight on how to approach the music intelligently and with empathy through creating more integrated singing communities.

French Song with THOMAS GRUBB
Thomas Grubb, the author of Singing in French: A Manual of French Diction & French Vocal Repertoire will focus this workshop on the vividly poetic songs of the French vocal repertoire like Debussy, Duparc, Poulenc, Ravel and more. Grubb was decorated as Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry, and is one of the leading experts of French music worldwide having taught at Juilliard, Curtis, and Peabody conservatories.

Italian Song with CORRADINA CAPORELLO
Born in Rome, Dr. Caporello trained with Evelina Colorni and is the author of The Boccaccian Novella: Creation and Waning of a Genre. She will focus this workshop on the 17th, 18th, 19th, and early 20th century Italian song repertoire. Caporello has coached at the Bel Canto Institute, Banff Centre for the Arts, and has been a member of the Juilliard faculty since 1984.
Dramatic Interpretation of Song with MARGARET LATTIMORE
Dramatic interpretation is central to this Metropolitan Opera singer’s career. Margaret Lattimore (mezzo), will guide singers in how to get to the heart of the music and will explore elements of interpretation and making the most of vocal expression in song.
Ravel & Poulenc Mélodies with FRANK DAYKIN
Frank Daykin, the author of The Encyclopedia of French Song, will work with singers and pianists on the songs of Maurice Ravel and Francis Poulenc. Singers should be prepared to bring one song by each of these iconic composers of French song.
Singing in English with KATHRYN LABOUFF
Kathryn LaBouff, the author of Singing and Communicating in English: A Singer's Guide to English Diction, will focus this workshop on how to apply a methodological and vocally healthy approach to singing in English, empowering and freeing the singer/actor to deeply communicate while singing English text. LaBouff continues to teach at the Juilliard School in Manhattan, and offers masterclasses throughout the world.
Masterclasses will take place virtually via Zoom.

My Songs Without Words - A Valentine's Day Concert with MARK MARKHAM
Pianist Mark Markham is considered one of the finest artists of his generation. He is known around the world for his twenty-year collaboration with the legendary soprano Jessye Norman, as well as his partnerships with a new generation of stars, and his solo performances in recital and with orchestra. This virtual program is a recital of solo piano pieces that are "songs" without words representing a range of composers from Bach, Bartok and Mendelssohn to Schubert, Scriabin and Schumann. Moreover, included in this program is music by Brahms, Janacek and Chopin. The program will also include Mr. Markham's personal improvisations on the Great American Songbook and the results are different on every occasion.

Mary Trueman Art Song Vocal Competition Finals Concert
The top finalist of this elite vocal competition featuring talented singers competing for a cash prize before the public and an esteemed panel of judges. The competition is in recital format so come enjoy an afternoon of song!

American mezzo-soprano, Raehann Bryce-Davis, is the 2018 winner of the prestigious George London Award and a singer in great demand. Ms. Bryce-Davis joins forces with accomplished pianist from the international stage, Mark Markham to offer a recital of art song in celebration of ASPS's 10-year anniversary. Come celebrate with us!

General tickets for all ASPS master classes and recitals are $15 at the door with discounts for students and seniors. Advance purchased tickets may also be obtained at a discounted rate of $10 online via PayPal. Rather than a physical ticket, your name will be added to our Will-Call list. Please be prepared to provide a valid Government Issued Photo ID on the day of the event to gain admittance.
