Spring Into Song 2014
ASPS is proud to announce the launch of this upcoming year's performance and educational series Spring Into Song. Emerging artists will be featured in our vocal recital-competition and public master class series, with coaching and collaboration with world-renowned pianists, vocal coaches, and master performers from all over the world.
Concert: The Mary Trueman Vocal Arts Competition Finals
Showcasing the finalists of The Mary Trueman Vocal Arts Competition in a world-class art song recital, the performers in this live concert will be judged by a panel of internationally recognized luminaries of song - and a wining singer will be selected that day before the audience! The panel of judges for this competition will be world-renowned American soprano, Benita Valente; author of Singing in French: A Manual of French Diction & French Vocal Repertoire, Thomas Grubb; and internationally-established piano collaborator, Thomas Muraco.

Master Class: French Mélodie - An Homage to Pierre Bernac
Guest Artist: Thomas Grubb, Author of Singing in French: A Manual of French Diction and French Vocal Repertoire
Overview: In homage to legendary French song interpreter, Pierre Bernac, and the 35 year anniversary of his passing, select singers are invited to participate in an afternoon of exploration of French Mélodie given by Thomas Grubb, a leading interpreter of French Song and master teacher at the Juilliard School. Thomas Grubb's mentor, Bernac, was the noted French baritone and author of The Interpretation of French Song and of Francis Poulenc: the Man and his Songs. An illuminating and enjoyable afternoon is promised to all. This event is open to the public.

Overview: Select singers are invited to participate in this enlightening afternoon with Elem Eley focusing on German Lieder. Winner of the 1996 Joy in Singing Award, Baritone Elem Eley is Professor of Voice at Westminster Choir College of Rider University. He is also founder/director of the summer program Vienna: Language of Lieder, a program focused equally on the preparation, coaching, and performance of Lieder, as well as on the intensive study of the German language. This event is open to the public.

Overview: Select singers are invited to participate in this incredible session and rare treat: an afternoon devoted to the cross-over repertoire of musical theatre, led by the legendary Marni Nixon. Known as "The Voice of Hollywood," Marni Nixon is most famous for dubbing the singing voices of the leading actresses in films, but has had an incredible and diverse career in opera, oratorio, and recital. This musical theatre master class is open to the public and should not to be missed!

Claude Debussy was one of the most prominent composers of the 19th and 20th centuries, and is a staple of French art song repertoire. Dalton Baldwin, professor of accompanying and coaching at Westminster Choir College of Rider University, has worked with many of the great singers of our time: Gerard Souzay, Elly Ameling, Arleen Auger, Jessye Norman, Theresa Berganza, Frederica von Stade, Nicolai Gedda and Jose van Dam. Mr. Baldwin was permanent pianist of Gérard Souzay for over three decades, during which time they toured extensively on five continents and made numerous prize-winning recordings. This event is open to the public.
